A Memory for Mr. Rooster

I haven't gone thrifting in ages, so after running some errands I thought I'd stop by a couple of thrift shops on my way home. And doggone it, you would know, I came back with exactly ONE thing!

But it's a neat thing, and I'm glad I found it.

A collapsible wire egg basket.

My little rooster likes looking at all the eggs.... they remind him of his girlfriend who got dropped at the cash register and lost her head... He was sad at first but enough time has gone by now that he has only sweet memories of his little hen friend.

I like the industrial look of the wire when its feet are up in the air...

and when it's flat as a pancake

I think it would be cute with a plant in it.... hmm, might need to play with that idea!

I believe I have one of those chicken shaped egg baskets, but I don't know where it is. Maybe it's hiding in the shed -- if so I'll probably never find it! Oh well, Mr. Rooster would probably have a chicken heart attack if he saw it!

  1. Love your basket, and the sweet rooster. Glad he is happy once again after losing his friend. :) Don't you hate when that breakage happens, sigh, know I do. Visiting from VTT.

  2. What a great find! So glad you stopped by thrift so you could rescue such a neat egg basket!

  3. Wow, how cool is that! Haha, Mr. Rooster certainly seems to approve of the purchase. :)

  4. How neat! So versatile!....christine

  5. Love your basket -- I remember my aunt using a similar one to collect eggs. With Easter coming you could could fill it with pretty colored eggs!

  6. That's pretty cool! I have an old one, too, that my neighbor gave me. She has another old one, also. LOL Ours get filled with eggs! ;-)

  7. Great find, love your egg basket,
I have one too, it was a fleamarket find :)

  8. I didn't know you had this blog also....I love vintage.

  9. I like how it's collapsible. I only have one hen right now. Something got to the rest a few months ago. She is lonely. She follows us around and tries to come in the house with us!

  10. I love egg baskets! What is it, but they have such nostalgia and charm about them. Thank you so much for sharing this at History & Home this week. Take care - Dawn @ We Call It

  11. I had one of these for years. Unsure where it got off to! Have a terrific week and I am glad you found this, it is so versatile.

  12. Hi Sarah, I love the egg basket and I have never seen one like that. I do have a hen shaped wire basket full of wooden eggs on the top of my cabinet. Many years ago my Aunt and Uncle had an egg farm a quarter a mile from our dairy farm. I used to collect the eggs on our farm but I never had a wire basket. I too love hens and roosters and have quite a collection.
    Have a great week.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  13. My daughter is going to need one of these, since they are building a chicken coop!
