Rock Star

My daughter probably thinks I'm going overboard, but how often do you have a child turning the Big 3-0?

I've been kidding her that now teenagers will think of her as being one of *THEM,* someone who is really OLD...

Rockin' out

Toy Gun
What those teenagers don't know is that she has her own rock band!! That doesn't sound like someone who is *really old* to me!

So, in celebration of her birthday, I made her a treasury on Etsy. She thought it was pretty cool : )

I found music/band related items that suit Stephanie, and made sure to include blue which is September's color, which of course fits right in with Blue Monday!!

You can click on the title and go right to the treasury, or click on the pics and go to that shop.

If you are familiar with Etsy you know about treasuries; if you're not, a treasury is a gathering of shop items that fit a certain theme, or color, or season, or whatever you dream up. It's a great way of showcasing items from fellow Etsyians and/or team members. This particular treasury features members of the Etsy Vintage Team, plus great finds from other Etsy shops.

Now back to the band....

A couple of weeks ago Toy Gun played at a record shop in Dallas that was promoting International Cassette Store Day (there seems to be quite an underground cult following of the old-time cassettes, just as there is for records -- very cool).

Since this was during the day and not in a bar, we went and brought Noli --

who got a big kick out of seeing her mama rockin' out!

and got up close and personal with the drums

Baggins (on bass) always seems to be looking skyward....
Stephanie says he just gets in the groove with no distractions

Note that Vern (drums) is wearing a bit of blue!

Good Records in Dallas is a cool place.
They support local talent and even have a stage for performances!
and they sell records as well as CDs.

See that bit of red up there?

It's an old Samsonite hatbox that they use to transport all their gizmos!

Stephanie is all about vintage and recycling!

Thank goodness there was something for Noli to do while we waited for the band to start!
We ate a lot of pretend lunches from this little playhouse!

Do you have any rock stars in your family??

Sharing my 30 year old rock star at....

  1. As a matter of fact, our son majored in voice in college. He is working fulltime in church music. His daughter is ready to graduate this December in voice! (Both have really terrific voices, as does my daughter-in-law and my husband!)

Thanks for being so faithful to Blue Monday, and for sharing your blue.

  3. No rock stars here although Amara plays a mean guitar on Guitar Band! I think it is awesome that Noli got to see another side of Mom!

  4. wonderful post!
I have a September birthday kid, too. She just turned 33. So not only is 30s OLD, but the parents of 30s must be ancient!
She played trumpet in HS and college and was very good. She played for a season with a local orchestra.
The hat box is very cool!

My brother is the resident rock star in my family. I know that you've seen some of the pictures that I've posted on my blog of him playing.

  14. Hi Sarah, How fun to bring the birthday girl to see the rock band in your family. Loved the treasury too. Yes, we are a musical family and we have grands that sing and play. It is always great to watch and hear them play,

  15. Great pictures! Your daughter doesn't look 30. I think it is awesome she is in a band. Music is so needed for our souls. That is funny about cassettes having a following. I didn't realizing that! My first car had a cassette player but I don't miss it. My boyfriend had an 8 track player in his first car which I can't help but tease him about. :)

  16. I didn't know about the Etsy treasuries...what a great idea. Our grandkids love music, and the six-year-old is on his second drum kit. We moved it from our living room to the basement, and sometimes we all go downstairs and he assigns different instruments (guitar, harmonica, tambourine, recorder, xylophone, etc.) and we jam on made-up songs. Pretty sure he will have his own band as soon as he can read music or play by ear. So much fun!

  17. It's true! They're only 30 once. My eldest is 34. Much fun!
